Warm Weather Leads to Closing of Hansen Memorial Skate Rink

Posted on 09 January 2018 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Parks Department has closed the John Hansen Memorial Skate Rink until further notice due to the warm weather which has begun melting ice and has left water standing on the ice.  The lights will not be turned on in the evening.  Colder weather is expected by this weekend.

Once again, volunteers are still being sought to staff the warming house and handle skate rentals.  Since there is no school on Monday, January 15th, Nerem & Associates Real Estate & Insurance will be staffing the John Hansen Memorial Ice Skating Rink from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM for all youth, adults and family.  Nerem & Associates will open the warming house making available free hot chocolate and ice skates, while supplies last.  Everyone is encouraged to come and have some fun.

The Ice Skating Rink is located just off Park Avenue at Gutterridge Park.
