The route for the 2018 Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa was announced in Des Moines on Saturday evening and thousands of cyclists, who will start in Onawa the fourth Sunday of July and finish in Davenport the following Saturday, will more than likely roll right through Boone County. Complete details, including all towns and roads on the route, are expected to be revealed by March, but with overnight stops in Jefferson on Monday, July 23rd, and Ames the next night it’s a safe bet that RAGBRAI will cross Boone County – if not enter the City of Boone – during the day on Tuesday, July 24th. RAGBRAI XLVI will be the fourth flattest (with 12,576 feet of climb) and seventh shortest (at 428.1 miles) in its history and have an overnight stop in another university town, Iowa City on Friday, July 27th. Dension on Sunday, Newton on Wednesday, and Sigourney on Thursday are the other overnight cities for this year’s RAGBRAI.
