BOONE, Iowa—Last week, a jury at the Boone County Courthouse found Kurtis Michael Green, 39 of Boone, Iowa, guilty of Domestic Abuse Assault by Strangulation causing Bodily Injury. The case was prosecuted by the Boone County Attorney’s office. They released this information following the jury’s verdict:
The jury trial was held in the Boone County District Associates Court on April 3, 2018. The case originated by a call to the Boone County Sheriff’s Communication Center on January 16, 2018, when a caller reported a domestic situation. City of Boone Police Officers responded to the scene in the city of Boone. When they arrived they met with the victim who was visibly upset and crying. The victim reported that Kurtis Michael Green struck her, pulled her hair, and tried to “choke her out.” She reported that while she was sitting Green grabbed her around the neck with his thumbs pressing in on the front of the neck restricting her airway. She reported trouble breathing when he did this to her.
The officers noticed the victim had multiple red marks on arm, face and leg from the attack by Kurtis Green. Officers later located Kurtis Green who denied everything. Officers arrested Kurtis Green for Domestic Abuse Assault by Strangulation causing Bodily Injury in violation with Iowa Code section 708.2A(5).
The one day jury trial was held in the Boone County Courthouse in the District Associates Courtroom on April 3, 2018. The State presented evidence from the Police Officer’s bodycam along with photos and testimony of the officers at the scene. At the end of the trial and after deliberations, the jury returned a verdict finding the defendant, Kurtis Michael Green, guilty of Domestic Abuse Assault by Strangulation causing Bodily Injury. A sentencing date will be held at a later date. Kurtis Green faces up to five years in prison.
The case was investigated by the City of Boone Police Department. The State was represented by First Assistant Boone County Attorney Matt Speers. Kurtis Green was represented by a local attorney.
