Council Economic Development Committee to Review Housing Development Proposals

Posted on 04 June 2018 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council’s Economic Development Committee will consider three proposals that would lead to the development of property the city acquired at 332 West 2nd Street.  The former mobile home park has been cleaned up and the city purchased the property at a reduced price because of assessments set against the land’s owner.  At the time, City Administrator Bill Skare said the plan was to seek proposals for residential development of the land.  Those are the proposals being considered by the Economic Development Committee.

One proposal was received from Destiny Home of Waukee, Iowa.  That proposal calls for the SMART Series Homes.  Their concept plan allows for 18 new homes to be built and would cost an estimated $190,000.  There could be some additional development discussions for the property.

Essence Homes submitted a proposal that would divide the property into 8-lots, with the construction of homes estimated to be $170,000 to $250,000.  Essence Homes is owned and operated by Carl McKnight and Emily Graeve of Boone.

Iowa Home Builders of Johnston submitted a proposal that would create 15-lots which allow for the construction of homes estimated to cost $175,000 to $250,000.

All three developers are expected to take part in the Economic Development Committee meeting, which will be held in the Council Chambers at Boone City Hall.  The meeting begins at 5:00 p.m. Monday afternoon.  It is possible the committee could make a recommendation for the full council to consider later Monday.
