Boone Resident Sentenced to 30 Years for Sex Abuse

BOONE, Iowa—A Boone resident, 37 year old Eric Jon Slagle was sentenced this week to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty in cases of Sex Abuse and Possession of Child Pornography.  The Boone County Attorney’s office prosecuted the case and released this information:

On June 5, 2018, a Boone County District Court Judge sentenced Eric Jon Slagle, 37 years old of Boone, Iowa, to 30 years in prison with the Iowa Department of Corrections.  The sentencing is a result of a guilty plea on June 4, 2018 in which he pled guilty in two cases in which he was charged with Sex Abuse in the Third Degree, Lascivious Acts with a Child and five counts of Possession of Child Pornography.  On June 5, 2018, the court sentenced Eric Jon Slagle to 30 years in prison for these counts.

According to the Complaint and Affidavits filed in his cases, the first case happened sometime in May of 2017 when Eric Slagle had forceful sexual intercourse with a 12 year old girl.  In March of 2018 the Boone Police Department filed multiple charges against Eric Jon Slagle for acts against a child and multiple counts of possession of child pornography.  The Boone Police conducted a search warrant on Eric Slagle’s home in which they seized his computers and phone.  The Webster County Sheriff’s Office Cyber Crime Unit searched his phone finding multiple images of child pornography on it.  The Boone Police Department filed charges against Eric Jon Slagle on both cases.

On June 4, 2018, Eric Slagle pled guilty to both cases.  Eric Slagle pled guilty to Sex Abuse in the Third Degree for the May 2017 case and pled guilty to Lascivious Acts with a Child and five counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Child.  All the counts in both cases carried a combined maximum term of imprisonment of 30 years.  On June 5, 2018, the District Court sentenced Eric Jon Slagle to 30 years in prison with the Iowa Department of Corrections running all the counts consecutively.

Daniel Kolacia with the Boone County Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case on behalf of the State of Iowa for the prosecution.  Eric Slagle was defended by a local attorney.  The Boone Police Department investigated the case with assistance provided by the Webster County Sheriff’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit.
