BOONE, Iowa—Claire Whalen, daughter of Sean and Bonnie Whalen of Pilot Mound, has been selected the 2018 Boone County Fair Queen. The coronation took place Thursday evening in the community building at the Boone County Fair grounds. Whalen, one of nine contestants said there was a little shock when her name was announced
Geralyn Timm of Madrid, daughter of Andy and Lisa Timm, was named first runner-up and Boone County Fair Princess. Madelyn Ostendorf was chosen second runner-up, she’s the daughter of Terry and Diane Ostendorf of Madrid. Josie Noland of Woodward, the daughter of Kelli and Alan Noland was named third runner-up.
Whalen will be appearing at a number of fair related activities and will also be participating in the fair through projects. She said she’s looking forward to representing Boone County at the Iowa State Fair.
The Boone County Fair Queen Pageant is a scholarship pageant. Whalen receives at $400 scholarship, Timm a $150 scholarship, Ostendorf at $100 scholarship and a $75 scholarship is awarded to Noland.
