BOONE, Iowa—The Boone County Fair’s 2018 Bill Riley Talent Search was held in the Community Building on the Fairgrounds Sunday afternoon. Contests were held in the Sprout Division and Senior Divisions.
The Sprout Division, for those 2-12 years of age, had a half dozen performances. The top finisher was Lucy Gannon, an 11 year old from West Des Moines who performed a piano solo. Sophia Morris, a 7 year old from Peasant Hill performed an Acro dance solo. Third place went to Emily Augspurger an 11 year old who performed a Lyrical dance solo. Gannon had previously qualified for the State Fair Bill Riley Talent Search, so Sophia Morris will advance to that competition.
There were several acts performing in the Senior Division, for those 13-21 years of age. First place in the Senior competition went to a Vocal Duet, Tory Gregurich and Laura McCargar, both 21 from Des Moines. They performed an original selection called “Tainted Love”. Second went to Ana Yam, 15 of Ames, who performed a piano solo. Third place in the Senior category was awarded to BaiYu Fisher, another 15 year old from Des Moines. She performed a Contemporary dance solo.
