Two City Projects Underway This Week

Posted on 07 August 2018 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—Two expected projects have begun this week in Boone.  One is the resurfacing of a portion of the Industrial Park Road.  City officials had said many times that it was a priority project and would begin shortly after the paving of Quartz Avenue to the north was open for traffic.  The joint county-city paving project was completed and has now been open for traffic since July 27th.

Monday, the Industrial Park Road was shut down and Manatt’s Asphalt will be resurfacing a portion of the road from 350 feet west of Argo Street to the east city limits.  The nearly $370,000 was bid in April and was to start August 1st in conjunction with the opening of Quartz Avenue to the north which opening on July 27th.  Boone Mayor John Slight, on Tuned In this week said that the resurfacing is expected to be completed by the end of August, weather permitting.

Another noticeable project with the repainting of the Clinton Street water tower.  The 750,000 water tower will be repainted by Utility Service Company from Perry, Georgia.  This is a bid of nearly $460,000 and will require that the water tower be drained, which could lead to some discolored water, cleaned, then painted.  City Engineer Dan Scott says the cleaning will be pressure washing which could lead to some over-spray.  The actual painting will be done with a fast drying paint and will be done with rollers and brushes to avoid any drift.  Utility Service Company is expected to have people working from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. seven days a week, weather permitting.  The painting project is expected to be completed in October.
