AMES, Iowa—U.S. Department of Education Deputy Secretary Mitchell (Mick) Zais is visiting the DMACC Ames Hunziker Center Thursday as part of his agency’s national “Back to School” tour to identify new and innovative ways to better serve students.

“Nationwide we have a shortage of skilled workers and it’s slowing our economy,” said Dr. Zais during his tour of DMACC’s Auto Technology, Building Trades and Culinary Labs at DMACC Ames Center. “Let’s help kids discover a career that best fits their interests and motivate them to pursue one of these skilled career paths,” advised Dr. Zais.

DMACC President Rob Denson is on the left, Dr. Zais, and Randy Gabriel, Director of DMACC’s Career Advantage Program, who oversees high school programming at the Ames Center, is on the right.
