Green Space Coalition Presents Plan Update to Council

Posted on 18 September 2018 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council received an update from representatives of the Green Space Coalition, of group of residents trying to develop a plan and support for improving the open space on the northwest corner of Story and 8th Streets in downtown Boone.  The presentation included a rough sketch and some estimates on costs for improvements.  The Coalition has two phases planned at this time, the first would be mostly dirt work and sidewalks with the conduit placed for electrical.  The second phase currently includes a bandstand, lamp posts and benches.  The rough estimate for both phases is just under $34,000.

So far, there’s been some interest in sponsoring benches and also sponsoring some bricks that would be engraved and placed in the sidewalk.  The Coalition did do a fundraiser on September 1st during the All American Car Show and raised just over $1,200.

The Council remained supportive of the project and will have representatives of the Coalition work with city staff, including Administrator Bill Skare, to continue moving forward.  Work on any of the improvements is not expected to begin until 2019.
