MADRID, Iowa—Voters in Madrid will have their second special city election in the two months. The end of July, voters selected a new mayor and a new council member and next Tuesday, two new council members will be elected. By the time the results are canvased and everyone gets sworn in, there will only be two members of the council that started the year in there.
On September 25th, Madrid voters will be able to go to the community room and vote for one at-large councilman. Dean Poindexter, Jr and Chuck Rigby are on the ballot. Voters in the Madrid 3rd Ward will also vote for a new council member, choosing between Michael W. Heeren and Marvin T. Ostrander. The polls will be open Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Early voting is also available prior to the election at the Auditor’s office of the Boone County Courthouse between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday, September 24th, early voting will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Both council positions were vacated by resignations. Rather than appoint council members, it was decided to hold a special election.
