BOONE, Iowa—Wind, solar, and other renewable energy priorities in Iowa are some of the topics to be discussed in a community conversation in Boone on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Hosted by the Center for Rural Affairs, the event is free and open to the public, and will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Boone City Hall Auditorium, 923 8th St., Boone, Iowa 50036. Refreshments will be provided.

Attendees will have an opportunity to engage with Center for Rural Affairs staff about renewable energy. Discussion topics will cover crafting ordinances, opportunities for communities to invest in renewables, and more areas relating to clean energy policy.

“Iowa has a lot of potential to generate renewable energy from wind and solar,” said Katie Rock, policy associate at the Center for Rural Affairs. “But, to take full advantage of the state’s potential, citizens need to get involved and learn about things they can do to capture the benefits of clean energy.”

Communities across the state are advancing clean energy projects, and developing energy transmission infrastructure has become a need.

“Iowa’s energy landscape has been rapidly changing over the past decade and discussions about the future will ensure rural communities are not left out of the conversation,” Rock said. “Renewables are now the cheapest source of energy for parts of the Midwest, and this is bringing change to many communities.”
