Council to Consider Hotel/Motel Tax Distribution

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council will consider requests received for the distribution of the city’s Hotel/Motel Tax for the next fiscal year, beginning July 1st.  Last year’s requests amounted to $198,900 and the council approved the distribution of $145,000.  This year, requests have surpassed $255,000 and again the council will consider the distribution of $145,000.

The largest request received was made by the Convention and Visitors Bureau for $90,000.  Boone County Economic Development has a $40,000 request.  Others included the Boone County Historical Society asking for $20,000, the Boone Action Association/Boone’s River Valley Festival for $15,000, the Boone Rotary Club for $10,000, the Boone County Agricultural Association (Fairgrounds) requested $7,850, Boone National Little League requested $5,000, the Boone Farmers Market asked for $4,000 and the Boone County Family YMCA is seeking $3,000.

As in the past, the city also has several line items included in the requests including $40,000 to reimburse the general fund for incentives provided to Boulders Inn and Suites, $10,000 to Boone Community Theatre for turning over the former Garfield School property, $6,000 for the Fourth of July fireworks show and a $5,000 line item for an Economic Development Business Grant.

The council will meet Tuesday evening at 6:00 at the Boone City Hall to consider the allocations for the Hotel/Motel Tax.
