BOONE, Iowa—Boone County authorities today released the names of those involved in a head on collision on Highway 17 north of Luther Tuesday morning. 65 Year old Miguel Garcia of West Ames, Iowa died in the collision. 55-year old Vickie Frattalone of Maxwell, Iowa was taken from the scene by ambulance and transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center with serious injuries. There has been no update on her condition.
Boone County authorities have reported that due to the severity of the impact, the vehicle that Garcia was driving was relocated from the scene to the Boone Fire Department for extrication. According to the release from the Sheriff’s Department, the move was made to provide a safe and controlled environment for fire fighters to take the vehicle apart. It additionally allowed for some privacy and dignity for the accident victim.

The Sheriff’s Department had already reported that they were called to the scene about 7:30 Tuesday morning following the head-on collision. The cause has been attributed to the road conditions at the time. There has not been any indication about which driver lost control of their vehicle. The Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Boone County Emergency Management, Boone Fire and Rescue and Boone County Ambulance.
