BOONE, Iowa—Boone City officials have been able to set up a public meeting with representatives of Alliant Energy to allow residents an opportunity to hear first hand about the company’s proposed increases in base rates for both electricity and natural gas. The Iowa Utilities Board had ordered a number of public meetings that will begin next Thursday, April 11th in Creston and ending on May 23rd in Cedar Rapids. The closest to Boone would have been the meeting in Marshalltown on April 23rd. Boone officials met this week with representatives of Alliant and were able schedule a public meeting in the Boone City Hall Auditorium on Monday, April 15th at 5:00 p.m. This meeting is over and above the meetings required by the Iowa Utilities Board. A number of residents have expressed outrage at a proposed 25% increase in the base rate of the electricity and natural gas.
