Garfield Demolition Begins

Posted on 25 April 2019 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The demolition of the former Garfield Elementary School building on the west side of the city is underway.  Wisecup Trucking was selected to handle the demolition.  The city acquired the building from Boone Community Theatre at the end of 2018.  Since then, asbestos abatement has been completed in preparation for the demolition.  Once the site is cleared, the block will be used for residential development.  The Council’s Economic Development Committee recently reviewed proposals for developing the site and have selected a proposal submitted by iHome Development.  iHome Development’s proposal divided the block into eight (8) lots, with homes ranging in price between $200,000.00 to $250,000.00; they would purchase the land for $75,000.00 and host a “Parade of Homes” concept upon completion in the fall of 2019.  Boone City Administrator Bill Skare says after the demolition of the Garfield School, asbestos removal, and the $50,000.00 agreement to the Boone Community Theatre, the City will have approximately $195,000.00 into this project.
