BOONE, Iowa—The Iowa State Patrol has released information from the two-vehicle accident that occurred on the south side of Boone Tuesday afternoon, closing the east bound lands of U.S. Highway 30 for about three-and-a-half hours. The report of the accident was received at the Boone County Communications Center at 2:10 p.m. after a vehicle, operated by 34-year old Zachary Wessling of Boone, Iowa collided with the rear of semi operated by 31-year old Freddy Bacon of Marshalltown, Iowa. According to the State Patrol report, Bacon had just made a right turn onto the highway, heading east when the east bound car operated by Wessling collided with rear of the semi trailer. Wessling’s vehicle then crossed into the median, coming to a rest facing north.
Wessling and a passenger, 32-year old Alisha Lowe of Boone were extricated from the vehicle and were transported by ambulance to the Boone County Hospital and were eventually transferred to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. A third person, 26-year old Kurtis Vogler of Boone, a passenger in the rear seat of the Wessling vehicle was also taken to the Boone County Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
According the the report by the State Patrol, weather conditions were not a factor in the accident. Citations for excess speed and careless operation are pending against Wessling.
Additionally, the Boone Area Humane Society assisted with rescuing a dog involved in the accident.
