BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council has approved a contractor for the construction of a new lift station on Park Avenue on the south side of Boone. Mayor John Slight on KWBG Tuesday said the project has been planned for sometime. Five bids were received for the project with the low bid submitted by King Construction of Wall Lake. Their bid was $623,565. The next closest bid was submitted by Keller Excavating of Boone for just under $693,000. Two other bids received were for more than $800,000 and the high bid was over $1-million. Slight said the city is seeing higher bids for all kinds of projects because contractors have many projects being delayed due to weather.
City Engineer Dan Scott had told Utility Committee members several weeks ago that the Park Avenue lift station was being watched closely because of mechanical issues with pumps.
