Dr. Ahmed Agyeman to Serve as Director of Community and Global Engagement at DMACC

ANKENY, Iowa—DMACC, the largest undergraduate college in Iowa, has announced that Dr. Ahmed Agyeman has moved into an expanded role as the new Director of Community and Global Engagement at DMACC. Agyeman previously served as Associate Director of Program Development for the College.

In his new position, Agyeman will provide vision and direction for creating and maintaining an inclusive college community and culture.

“Dr. Agyeman has been a dedicated champion for a collaborative, welcoming and inclusive environment at DMACC, which makes him a great fit for this role,” said Shelli Allen, VP of Enrollment Services at DMACC. “With an expanded focus on community and global engagement, DMACC will continue, and strengthen, its ongoing commitment to meeting the needs of the College and the many diverse communities of Greater Des Moines.”

As Director of Community and Global Engagement at DMACC, Agyeman will focus his efforts on:

·         Providing collaborative leadership across all DMACC campuses in support of the College’s mission, strategic plan and commitment to inclusion.

·         Working collaboratively with campus partners to develop engagement opportunities that will positively impact recruitment, retention, engagement and persistence of underrepresented students.

·         Developing collaborative programs that explore identity.

·         Addressing current events as they impact multicultural communities.

·         Assisting with the development of curriculum, training and outreach about building inclusive communities.

·         Contributing to campus-wide diversity related professional development and leading efforts to incorporate diversity training into various areas of the College.

·         Facilitating dialogues on complex issues related to campus climate, current events and trends.

            “As a proud DMACC graduate, I’ve always felt personally connected to and passionate about our College culture,” Agyeman said. “I’m honored to serve the DMACC community, and I look forward to working together with students, faculty and staff across every DMACC campus, as well as members of the larger communities we are fortunate to call home.”

            Agyeman is a 1995 graduate of DMACC. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Iowa State University (’97), as well as a Master’s degree (’00) and Ph.D. (’17) in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, also at Iowa State.

            Before joining the DMACC staff in 2004, Agyeman served as Assistant Director of Admissions at Drake University.

Dr. Ahmed Agyeman will serve as Director of Community and Global Engagement at DMACC. Agyeman, a DMACC graduate who joined the College’s staff in 2004, previously served as Associate Director of Program Development at DMACC.
