BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council earlier in June refused to take any action on permits for the sale of tobacco and cigarettes sought by Flashmart for their two locations in Boone. Council concerns were the lack of progress being made with signage at the two locations, one at 315 Story Street and the second at 1704 South Story Street.
Avishek Sapkota, meeting with the council Monday, provided updated information on the work being done and the changes that are planned as the company intends to franchise with Circle K. Sapkota sought a 60-day extension to complete the signage, but the council refused to approve the extension. Sapkota told the council that Circle K representatives visited Boone the end of May and now have plans for remodeling both locations which will include signage. In the meantime, the companies permit for the sale of tobacco and cigarettes will expire the end of June. The existing tobacco and cigarette permit and the alcohol sales license were all approved by the council at their first meeting last December after the change in ownership of the two Boone locations. Flashmart also acquired Kum & Go locations in Perry and West Des Moines.
