BOONE, Iowa—The Boone County Sheriff’s Department and Boone County Search and Rescue responded to a call about a possible missing boater on Wednesday evening, west of Boone on the Des Moines River. Authorities report that the call was received in the communication center about 8:20 p.m. A witness saw a boat sink the area. Search and Rescue was deployed to the area. However, prior to their arrival, the subject operating the boat was located and was uninjured. Search and Rescue was able to retrieve the boat and the unidentified male operating was sent on his way.
The Boone County Communications Center received a second call about 3:00 a.m. requesting Search and Rescue to located the same boater because he was overdue and could not be located. Polk County Deputies did locate the individual this morning, near a marina, wearing a life jacket.
There is no information about whether the boat sank or the identity of the male boater.
