Petco Foundation Invests in Lifesaving Work of Boone Area Humane Society

Posted on 15 July 2019 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—Boone Area Humane Society of Boone, Iowa announced it has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to support its trap-neuter release program.

The Petco Foundation investment will help to establish a targeted trap-neuter-return (TNR) program within the city of Boone and surrounding areas. In addition to spay/neuter, the cats will also receive a microchip, vaccinations and any needed medical treatment and then returned to the community.

“A targeted TNR program would provide significant lifesaving by slowing the number of unwanted kittens born outside each year,” said Vanessa Heenan, shelter director.  “We will focus on areas that have highest intake of kittens.  With the Petco Foundation’s support as we spay and neuter the community cats the number of outdoor cats and kittens will be reduced over time.”

About the Petco Foundation

At the Petco Foundation, we believe that every animal deserves to live its best life.  Since 1999, we’ve invested more than $250 million in lifesaving animal welfare work to make that happen. With our more than 4,000 animal welfare partners, we inspire and empower communities to make a difference by investing in adoption and medical care programs, spay and neuter services, pet cancer research, service and therapy animals, and numerous other lifesaving initiatives. Through our Think Adoption First program, we partner with Petco stores and animal welfare organizations across the country to increase pet adoptions. So far, we’ve helped more than 5.5 million pets find their new loving families, and we’re just getting started. Visitpetcofoundation.org to learn more about how you can get involved.
