Slight Announces Re-Election Bid for Mayor

BOONE, Iowa—Mayor John Slight is announcing his intentions to seek re-election in November 2019 for Mayor of the City of Boone. Mayor Slight was first elected in 2003 to begin as Mayor in 2004.

Since his first election Mayor Slight, born and raised in Boone, has overseen a number of positive projects/changes for the City of Boone. Some of them include:

  • Quiet Zone agreement with Union Pacific RR (UP)
  • Purchase/remodel of the building where Police Department is located, as well as the remodel of City Hall
  • Long term Annexation agreement with businesses on Industrial Road
  • Oversaw transition of Police and Fire to an umbrella of Public Safety
  • During tough budget times reduced the number of full time employees from 85 to 65 thru attrition, without any layoffs and combined Department Head positions to increase efficiency and save tax dollars
  • Major infrastructure projects
  • Joint Overpass Project with Boone County, DOT and Fareway Stores
  • Involved in Shop With A Cop for 16 years
  • Has always run the City like a business

In addition to above, Mayor Slight has been the driving force behind the recent development within the City of Boone which includes; The Boulder Inn and Suites to include the Fareway Conference Center, Low to Moderate Income Alice Project, Midland Power and several other commercial projects. He also has been involved with the new housing projects in Boone, to include Garfield School Development and Destiny Place Homes.
