BOONE, Iowa—The City of Boone will begin the next phase of their program to eliminate storm water from the city’s sanitary sewer system. WHKS & Company, and engineering consultant, has continued inspecting the sanitary sewer system for signs of excessive wear and tear, as well as for structural defects and storm water pipeline cross connections.
It was announced recently that smoke testing will be done in August. Several areas will be tested with smoke and the result will be information that could lead to various defects that may be economically repaired.
A non-toxic smoke is used during testing. This will be comparable to similar testing done by the city over the past several years. Residents will be notified prior to testing and should take time to make sure that water has been poured into any floor drains or sinks. Dry traps, drains without traps, and other plumbing defects will allow smoke to enter a dwelling if it’s connected to the line that’s being tested.
Attached is the map of the areas being tested.
