BOONE, Iowa—The Boone County Sheriff’s Department has released some preliminary information about Monday afternoon’s accident in eastern Boone County, on U.S. Highway 30 at the Lincolnway Bridge.
Shortly after 4:00 in the afternoon, a Boone County responded to eastbound U.S Highway 30 under the Lincoln Way Bridge for a single vehicle accident. Witnesses observed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and driving erratically. The vehicle drove through the steel cables and into a bridge pillar.
Iowa DOT was notified of the impact to the pillar and damaged barriers. The single male occupant was transported to the Ames Airport and flown to Des Moines for medical treatment. Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene. This investigation continuing and charges are pending.
The Story County Sheriff’s Office, Boone County Hospital, and Kelly Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
