ANKENY, Iowa—Scott Schultz has been named the new Academic Dean in the newly created Science, Engineering, Math and Social Science (SEMSS) department at DMACC.  He will be located in Bldg. #9 on the Ankeny Campus.

In his new capacity, Schultz will be the district-wide chief administrative officer of academic departments and programs over those four academic areas.

“The SEMSS academic organization at DMACC was created to bring better focus on STEM-related courses and programs in meeting the needs of students,” said Scott Ocken, DMACC’s Vice President of Academic Affairs.  “DMACC is always striving to improve the quality of education and the overall student experience.  This is an important investment in this commitment.”

Schultz has been a Physics Professor at Delta College in Michigan since 1998.  In addition, he was the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Talent Institute Director at Delta College for the past four years.

“In that role, I oversaw the creation of a four million dollar STEM outreach program that included a custom 38-foot mobile lab, the creation of the Great Lakes Bay STEM festival, and through partnerships with area business and industry leaders, the Great Lakes Bay STEM Network on Jobs and Technical Skills,” said Schultz.

While at Delta College, Schultz was also the Interim Dean of Teaching and Learning, where he was ultimately responsible for 208 full-time faculty and more than 250 adjunct faculty.

Schultz is passionate about providing instructors with great professional development opportunities.  He created and leads the New Faculty Experience for Two-Year College Physics Faculty and serves as a mentor and coach for faculty who participate in the Summer Leadership Institute for the Association of American Colleges and Universities.

A few of the college courses he has taught include:  Applied Physics, College Physics I, College Physics II, University Physics I, Physical Science, Astronomy Lab, Pre-Calculus, College Algebra I, Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation I, DC Electronics and AC Electronics.

“I am excited to lead the SEMSS division which is regionally recognized for its excellence.  The classes and programs we offer here at DMACC prepare students for challenging and rewarding careers and are a major boost to the local economy,” said Schultz.
