BOONE, Iowa—Boone Mayor John Slight has set an open public meeting to allow community members to become involved in the discussion about a possible recreation center. The matter has come to the forefront with the recent decision by the Board of Directors for the “Y ” of Greater Des Moines to close the local Boone County Family YMCA at the close of business on September 27th.
Previously, Slight has appointed three-Council-members to begin investigating the feasibility for a possible Rec Center project. That work is only in it’s early stages. At the Boone City Council meeting Monday, Slight said he felt it was important to engage the community in the discussion as early as possible. He said he anticipates those that support a project and those that are opposed to participate.
The open, public meeting will be held prior to the next City Council meeting on September 16th. The public meeting will be held at 5:00 p.m. at the Boone City Hall Auditorium.
Slight will talk about the public meeting during the KWBG News/Public Affairs Program “Tuned In” this (Wednesday) morning about 8:35 a.m. on KWBG 1590 and on the KWBG stream found here.
