DES MOINES, Iowa—The weekly report on fuel prices from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship shows the price of heating oil continues to increase.  In the past couple of weeks, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig encouraged Iowans to prepare of their needs this fall.  The price of heating oil rose $.19 from last month’s figures, closing at $2.45 per gallon.

Crude Oil Summary

• The price of global crude oil fell this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $1.90 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $56.14.
• Brent crude oil fell $1.42, and it is currently priced at $62.03.
• One year ago, WTI crude sold for $72.28 and Brent crude was at $82.21.

Motor Fuels

• As of Tuesday, September 24, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.50 across Iowa according to AAA.
  • This is $.02 higher than last week and $.34 lower than one year ago.
  • The national average on Tuesday was $2.66, $.01 higher than last week’s price
• Retail diesel prices in Iowa were $.03 higher than last week’s price with a statewide average of $2.86.
  • One year ago, diesel prices averaged $3.15 in Iowa.
  • The current Iowa diesel price is $.16 less than the national average of $3.02.
• Wholesale ethanol prices fell $.01 from last week’s price, currently at $1.38.
• The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $1.76 for U87-E10, $2.05 for Unleaded 87 (clear), ULSD#2 is at $2.05, ULSD#1 is at $2.30, and E-70 is priced at $1.56 per gallon.

Heating Fuels

• Propane prices were up $.01 from last month for a statewide average of $1.12 per gallon.
• Home heating oil was up $.19 cents from last month, ending with a statewide average of $2.45 per gallon.
• Natural Gas prices fell $.09 at the Henry Hub reporting site and currently priced at $2.52/MMbtu.

Continuing throughout the summer months, we will only report retail-heating oil and propane prices in Iowa once a month.
