BOONE, Iowa—Rain and mud delayed the first two planned ground breaking events for the proposed Midland Power Cooperative office and training center on the south side of Boone. Work at the site on the southwest corner of U.S. Highway 30 and South Story Street began several weeks ago, but every time a ground breaking event was planned it had either rained and turned the site into mud or was raining. Wednesday’s event also encountered light rain, but it went forward anyway.
The Midland Board of Directors has approved the construction of an administrative office site and training center to meet their growing needs. The proposed site will have a building expected to be over 10,000 square feet of space, plus training space that will be available to other cooperatives.
In September, the Boone City Council approved a develop agreement with Midland for the project which includes a tax rebate incentive, minimum taxable assessment and job creation.
