Weekly Fuel Report Released by IDALS

DES MOINES, Iowa—The price of wholesale ethanol rose $.06 this week, currently at $1.42 per gallon.

Crude Oil Summary

  • The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $.95 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $61.76.
  • Brent crude oil rose $1.84 and is currently priced at $67.94.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $44.61 and Brent crude was at $44.48.

Motor Fuels

  • As of Friday, Dec. 27, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.35 across Iowa according to AAA.
    • Prices rose $.01 from last week’s price and $.34 higher than one year ago.
    • The national average on Tuesday was $2.56, up $.01 from last week’s price.
  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa were up $.01 this week with a statewide average of $2.85.
    • One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.78 in Iowa.
    • The current Iowa diesel price is $.15 less than the national average of $3.00.
  • Wholesale ethanol prices increased $.06 from last week’s price, currently at $1.42.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $1.74 for U87-E10, $1.87 for Unleaded 87 (clear), ULSD#2 is at $2.05, ULSD#1 is at $2.32, and E-70 is priced at $1.53 per gallon.

Heating Fuels

  • Propane prices fell $.03 for a statewide average of $1.37 per gallon.
  • Home heating oil prices remained steady, with a statewide average of $2.45 per gallon.
  • Natural Gas prices fell $.06 at the Henry Hub reporting site and currently priced at $2.21/MMbtu.
