MADRID, Iowa—Another candidate has officially announced his plans to seek a nomination to become a Boone County Supervisor. The most recent is Jim Uthe of Madrid. Uthe will be on the ballot, seeking a Democratic nomination in the June 2nd Primary Election. Uthe’s announcement was made this week.
Jim Uthe is a fourth generation Iowan and Democratic candidate for Boone County Supervisor. The youngest of George and Katherine Uthe’s seven children, Jim was born and raised on the family farm just north of Madrid where they raised cattle, hogs and row crops. After graduating United Community Schools, he attended Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls and played football.
After college, Jim returned home to farm with his dad and married Cathy Barclay in 1981. The Uthe’s moved to a small acreage near Woodward, started a pig farrowing operation and raised their family. In 1984, Uthe started in the trucking business, starting as a driver and working his way to becoming a successful broker for Barr Nunn Transportation and in 1993, he joined Des Moines Transportation as their Vice President.
In 1998, Jim set out to make his own mark on the industry and started UTS Transportation Services, Inc. in Grimes. There he started with nothing and went on to build a multi-million-dollar business where his company received dozens of awards for safety, efficiency and customer satisfaction. Including winning the Transportation Carrier of the Year for Anderson Windows two years in a row.
Throughout his career and while raising his family, Jim has always found time to give back. Serving on the committee to pass the bond issue to build a new high school at Woodward-Granger. He also led the effort to raise the necessary funds to build a new track at the school and was recognized by the community by naming it Uthe Track and Field for his tireless commitment to the project.
Boone County is Jim’s home and he wants to serve his community again by bringing a lifetime of hard work, business experience and new leadership to the courthouse. As your county supervisor, Jim will represent all Boone County to improve infrastructure and the county roads system, create transparency and communication within county government and develop new opportunities to grow our community’s economy.
Jim and Cathy have three married children and six perfect grandchildren, with one more perfect grandchild on the way. The Uthe’s are retired and line on a farm outside of Madrid where they are member of St. Malachy’s Parish.
