Five BHS Groups Secure State Division 1 Ratings

On Saturday, February 8th, the Boone High School speech team performed at the State Large Group Speech Contest at Waukee High School in Waukee. Five of Boone’s six performances earned the highest rating (I).

Three judges evaluated each performance awarding students a rating on a scale of 1-4.  Students must receive a minimum of two one ratings in order to earn an overall rating of a 1.

Three groups received straight one ratings from all three judges.

● The Choral Reading group who performed “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” which is a tribute and is based on the writings of Fred Rogers, was the first to secure a perfect rating. Members of this group include: Skye Bentson, Chloe Clauson, Limey Garcia-Pagan, Keara Halsrud, Amber Lozier, Danielle Lozier, Nicole Lozier, Kalie Melton, Madesen Oppedahl, Sinclair Oppedahl, and Elinor Wojcik.

● The Musical Theatre group who performed selections from the musical Carrie also received a perfect rating. Members of this group include: Carlee Carpenter, Lacoda Collier, Chloey Davidson-Germain, Justice Edberg, Makiah Hoversten, Logan McGuire, Akela Salter, and Margaret Van Dyke.

● The Short Film entitled “Hot Chocolate” directed by Margaret Van Dyke and starring Leah Bloem, Carlee Carpenter, Jason Prazak, Benjamin Lumley, and Margaret Van Dyke also received a perfect rating.

The following groups earned two I’s from three of their judges for an overall I rating:

● The Freshmen Group Improv team of Haylie Bryant, Clara Carpenter, Madelyn Hall, Mabel Overton, and Sierra Sherry.

●The Group Improv team of Chloey Davidson, Logan McGuire, Jason Prazak, and Gabriel Wolf.

Also earning a I rating from one judge was the Musical Theatre Group performing performing selections from Heathers: The Musical included Carrie Aucker, Skye Bentson, Cassidy Hasstedt, and Harlow Heckman.

Students now are preparing for Individual District Speech contests in Madrid on February 29th.
