ANKENY, Iowa—Three people have been named to the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Foundation Board of Directors.
The three new members include: Natalie Bachman, Director of Strategic Sales Operations at Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield; Kim Butler Hegedus, Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer for Community State Bank; and Jim Heckman, Ogden Telephone Company General Manager.
The DMACC Foundation Board is served by 22 members who are leaders in the community and share an affinity for DMACC and its students. In addition to providing formal oversight of the operations of the DMACC Foundation, the board is instrumental in educating the community on the importance of private support for DMACC and in providing leadership for fundraising initiatives.
“We have been fortunate to have been served by an engaged, forward-thinking board since the inception of the DMACC Foundation,” says Executive Director Tara Connolly. “We are excited to welcome these three new members who will continue to push us to do more in support of our students, faculty, staff and community.”
Natalie Bachman, Director of Strategic Sales Operations at Wellmark
Bachman of Ankeny joined Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield (Wellmark) in 2011, and brings with her more than 27 years of experience in the health care and financial services industries with positions at Principal Financial Group and Wellmark. Her responsibilities include providing strategy development and implementation, and ensuring that Wellmark integrates initiatives to provide customers with comprehensive solutions that meet their needs. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
“My interest in the DMACC Foundation is twofold,” said Bachman. “I’ve seen the benefits firsthand in the education DMACC has provided to both of my sons and many of their friends, both in concurrent credit with high school as well as in combination with degrees. I also believe in giving back. I had a helping hand with scholarships when I was in college, and I want to help others with their college education.”
Kim Butler Hegedus, Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer for Community State Bank (CSB)
Butler Hegedus, who grew up in Ireton, is responsible for leading a team of seven commercial bankers who deliver a full suite of commercial banking services to meet the financial objectives of business clients in Central Iowa. She has more than 30 years of banking experience. Prior to joining CSB, she was Managing Director and Division head of CIBC’s Iowa Office. She has also held senior lending positions with LaSalle Bank, US Bank, Wells Fargo and Hawkeye Bank.
Butler Hegedus is on the board of directors for Variety, the Children’s Charity where she co-chairs the Two Days of Compassion Radiothon and serves as a VIP for the annual telethon. She also serves as Chair of the Iowa Association of Business and Industry Foundation Board and is on the Advisory Board for the Waukee YMCA. In addition, she is the founding member of DSM Financial Women Executive Women (FEW), a mentoring and networking group of women in finances.
Butler Hegedus is a graduate of the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute, Transformational Leadership and ABI’s Leadership Iowa. She is a former Forty Under 40 recipient and a 2011 Woman of Influence. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Central College.
“I’m acutely aware of the workforce issues facing Iowa,” said Butler Hegedus. “DMACC plays a huge role in educating the workers who are critical to our Iowa-based companies’ capacity to grow. I’m thrilled to help the DMACC Foundation raise scholarship dollars to assist our future employees in getting the skills they need to fill critical positions.”
Jim Heckman, Ogden Telephone Company General Manager
Heckman of Boone has been the General Manager at the Ogden Telephone Company for almost three years. Prior to that, he was the Sales Manager for AgriClear, Inc. and has been the President of the Dayton Championship Rodeo. Heckman earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Northwest Missouri State University.
All three of Heckman’s children have attended DMACC.
“I believe DMACC is a fantastic resource for Iowa,” said Heckman. “The instructors bring vast experiences and educate students so they can contribute as soon as they enter the job market or if the students decide to further their studies at a four-year university, they are well prepared for that experience.”
