Individual County Unemployment Numbers Increase

Posted on 22 April 2020 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—Last week, Iowa Workforce Development released the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the month of March which was 3.7 percent.  A year ago, the rate was 2.7 percent.  Director Beth Townsend said the March rate reflects the very beginning of the impact of the public health emergency restrictions.

Individual county statistics have now been released.  The data for counties has not been seasonally adjusted like the state numbers.  Boone County went from 2.7 percent unemployment in February to 3.1 percent in March.  Story County’s increase went from 1.7 percent to 2.2 percent.  Polk County 3.1 percent to 3.8 percent.  Dallas County 2.0 percent to 2.6 percent.  Greene County went from 2.3 to 2.7 percent.  Webster County 3.4 to 4.0 percent and Hamilton County 3.1 to 4.1 percent.
