Statewide Average Price for Gasoline Declines Again This Week

DES MOINES, Iowa—The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is charged with tracking fuel prices and has once again reported the average price of gasoline in Iowa fell 4 cents this week, currently at $1.50 per gallon.

Crude Oil Summary

  • The price of global crude oil fell this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $6.35 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $13.91.
  • Brent crude oil fell $7.78 and currently priced at $20.33.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $65.70 and Brent crude was at $70.71.

Motor Fuels

  • As of Wednesday, April 22, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $1.50 across Iowa according to AAA.
    • Prices fell $.04 from last week’s price and $1.23 lower than one year ago.
    • The national average on Wednesday was $1.80, down $.04 from last week’s price.
  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa fell $.02 this week with a statewide average of $2.22.
    • One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.99 in Iowa.
    • The current Iowa diesel price is $.27 less than the national average of $2.49.
  • Wholesale ethanol prices fell $.02, currently at $0.95.The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $0.43 for U87-E10, $0.53 for Unleaded 87 (clear), ULSD#2 is at $.82, ULSD#1 is at $.92, and E-70 priced at $.87 per gallon.

  • Natural Gas prices rose $.29 at the Henry Hub reporting site and currently priced at $1.90/MMbtu.
  • Continuing throughout the summer months, we will only report retail heating oil and propane prices in Iowa once a month.​​​​​​​
