A Black Lives Matter demonstration is planned for Boone at 6:00 on Monday evening, getting underway at the corner of Story and Eighth Streets.  A moment of silence and remarks from a couple of speakers will be followed by a march south on Story to Mamie Eisenhower, west on Mamie to Carroll Street, north on Carroll to Mamie’s birthplace, then east on Eighth back to the greenspace in downtown Boone.  Organizers say it will be a peaceful event, honoring the lives of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and all other black lives lost to police violence, as well as giving voice to black citizens in the community.  Participants are encouraged to practice social distancing and other COVID-19 safety guidelines.
