MASON CITY, Iowa—Emergency repairs will require traffic in the construction zone on U.S. 20 near Duncombe to be detoured from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 11, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mason City construction office. The road will be closed between Iowa 17/Hamilton County Road R-21 (exit 136) and Webster County Road P-73.
In this area, the westbound lanes of U.S. 20 are currently under construction and traffic has been switched to a head-to-head traffic pattern in the eastbound lanes. Recent heavy rains have caused potholes to develop in the open eastbound lanes. Necessary repairs to those lanes are the reason for the closure.
During this closure, traffic will be detoured around the work zone by using Union Avenue (Webster County Road P-73), 220th Street, and Iowa 17.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
