Posted on 08 July 2020 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone County Sheriff’s Department is seeking information from the public about a home-made explosive device discovered in a public hunting area south of Highway 30 near Ogden, Iowa.  The device was reportedly discovered late Monday morning.  Deputies Brian Pontius and Andy Godzicki responded to the call about an undetonated home-made pipe bomb device, located on the lid of a container in the area.
The State Fire Marshall’s Office was notified and two agents responded.  The explosive device was examined, dismantled, and evidence was collected and will be analyzed by the Department of Criminal Investigation.
The deputies reported that the device was left at this location and set to explode in a delayed manor and without any supervision. Had somebody from the public entered this area when the device detonated, their life and limbs would have been in very serious danger from the explosion.
The Sheriff’s Department investigation is continuing and anybody has any information about who is responsible for building this device or placing it at this location, please contact the Boone County Sheriffs Office 515-433-0524.
