On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health identified 544 new cases of COVID-19, an increase from the 463 positive coronavirus tests reported twenty-four hours earlier. Iowa has surpassed 45,000 cases of COVID-19 and 874 Iowans have died of coronavirus: 7 on Saturday, with one in Polk County, and 2 in Sunday’s update. Since 5:00 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 198 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Polk County for a total of 9,659, 41 this weekend in Dallas for 1,780, 27 in Webster for 711, 17 in Story for 1,103 there, 2 in Hamilton for 239, 1 in Greene for 38, and two in Boone County for 228 overall. Statewide, there are 231 patients currently hospitalized for coronavirus, a decrease of 11 from Saturday and almost 33,000 Iowans have recovered, including 152 in Boone County. For the 1 in 6 Iowans who have now been tested for COVID-19, the infection rate has – for the first time in four weekends – gone up slightly, to 9.4%.
