On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health identified 620 new cases of COVID-19, a significant increase from the 383 positive coronavirus tests reported twenty-four hours earlier. Iowa has had nearly 49,000 cases of COVID-19 and 930 Iowans have died of coronavirus: 13 on Saturday, with one in Polk County and another in Boone County, and 5 in Sunday’s update. Since 4:00 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 165 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Polk County for a total of 10,273, 26 this weekend in Dallas for 1,882, 20 in Story for 1,167, 12 in Webster for 801 there, 2 in Greene for 41, 1 in Hamilton for 246, and a dozen in Boone County for 258 overall. Statewide, there are 221 patients currently hospitalized for coronavirus, a decrease of 8 from Saturday and over 37,000 Iowans have recovered, including 172 in Boone County. For the 1 in 6 Iowans who have been tested for COVID-19, the infection rate has gone down slightly, to 9.3%.
