On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health identified 617 new cases of COVID-19, a decrease from the 843 positive coronavirus tests reported twenty-four hours earlier. Iowa has had over 56,000 cases of COVID-19 and 1,034 Iowans have died from coronavirus: 13 on Saturday, with two of those in Polk County and another in Dallas County, and 4 in Sunday’s update. Since 4:00 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 236 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Polk County for a total of 11,741, 82 this weekend in Story for 1,567, 47 in Dallas for 2,114, 6 in Webster for 693 there, two in Hamilton for 246, two more in Greene for 46, and a half dozen in Boone County for 314 overall. Statewide, there are 260 patients currently hospitalized for coronavirus, down 8 from Saturday, and almost 43,500 Iowans have recovered, including 219 in Boone County. For the 1 in 5 Iowans who have now been tested for COVID-19, the infection rate remains at 9.4%.
