BOONE, Iowa—Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined to 6.0 percent in August. The state’s jobless rate was 2.8 percent one year ago. The U.S. unemployment rate fell to 8.4 percent in August. In July, the state’s adjusted unemployment rate was 6.6 percent and in June, Iowa had a state rate of 8 percent.
This week, the unadjusted county rates were released. Boone County continued to decline, dropping to 4.6 percent from the July rate of 5.2 percent. Both Story and Greene Counties had August rates at 4.4 percent. Story County was down from 5.2 percent and Greene County down from 5.3 percent.
Other declines, Dallas County dropped from 4.9 percent to 4.3 percent July to August. Polk County dropped from 7.7 percent to 7.1 percent. Hamilton County dropped from 5.9 percent to 5 percent.
A year ago, the Boone County rate was 2.3 percent.
