On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health identified 1,312 new cases of COVID-19, a decrease from the 1,908 positive coronavirus tests that were reported 24 hours before. Almost 116,000 Iowans have contracted COVID-19 and 1,634 have died of coronavirus: a dozen on Saturday, including three from Polk County, along with one each in Hamilton and Webster Counties, and five in Sunday’s update. Since 5:00 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 300 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Polk County for a total of 18,850; 51 this weekend in Story for 3,989; 43 in Dallas for 3,439; 33 in Webster for 1,829 there; five in Hamilton for 467; four in Greene for 186; and 16 in Boone County for 717 overall. Statewide, there are 541 patients currently hospitalized for coronavirus, down from a record of 545 on Saturday, but nearly 88,000 Iowans have recovered, 512 in Boone County alone. For the one in three Iowans who have now been tested for COVID-19, the infection rate has jumped to 12.4%.
