On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health identified 2,887 new cases of COVID-19, an increase from the 2,823 positive coronavirus tests that were reported 24 hours before. Over 130,000 Iowans have now contracted COVID-19 and 1,716 have died of coronavirus: ten on Saturday, including one from Polk County, and another in Sunday’s update. Since 5:00 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 720 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Polk County for a total of 20,685;140 this weekend in Dallas for 3,766; 96 in Story for 4,251; 43 in Webster for 2,043 there; 16 in Greene for 210; 12 in Hamilton for 504; and 36 in Boone County for 797 overall. Statewide, there are a record number of patients hospitalized for coronavirus: 676, which is up 46 from Saturday, but more than 93,500 Iowans have recovered, 560 in Boone County alone. For the one in three Iowans who have been tested for COVID-19, the infection rate has jumped almost a full percentage point this past week, to 13.3%.
