On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health identified 4,213 new cases of COVID-19, a slight decrease from the 4,249 positive coronavirus tests that were reported 24 hours before. Over 152,500 Iowans have now contracted COVID-19 and 1,842 have died of coronavirus: 14 on Saturday, including one from Polk County and another from Webster County, and 13 in Sunday’s update. Since 5:00 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 988 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Polk County for a total of 23,221; 230 this weekend in Dallas for 4,354; 174 in Story for 4,800; 118 in Webster for 2,392 there; 34 in Hamilton for 581; 32 in Greene for 281; and 48 in Boone County for 918 overall. Statewide, there is another record number of patients hospitalized for coronavirus: 992, which is up 43 from Saturday, but more than 100,500 Iowans have recovered, 611 in Boone County alone. For the one in three Iowans who have been tested for COVID-19, the infection rate has jumped one and a half percentage points this past week, to 14.8%.
