On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health identified 3,401 new cases of COVID-19, 226 fewer positive coronavirus tests than were reported twenty-four hours before. So now more than 210,000 Iowans have contracted COVID-19 and 2,192 have died of coronavirus: 32 on Saturday, including five in Polk County, one in Dallas, and another in Boone County, and 33 in Sunday’s update. Since 4:00 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 918 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Polk County; 268 in Story; 125 in Dallas; 93 in Webster; 45 in Hamilton; 17 in Greene; and 57 in Boone County this weekend for a pandemic total of 1,269. Statewide, 1,340 Iowans are hospitalized for coronavirus, a decrease of 76 from Saturday and over 116,000 have recovered, 708 in Boone County alone. For the one in three Iowans who have been tested for COVID-19, the infection rate has jumped again, to greater than 18%.
