On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health identified 1,239 new cases of COVID-19, 685 fewer positive coronavirus tests than were reported twenty-four hours before. More than 256,000 Iowans have now contracted COVID-19 and 3,213 have died of coronavirus: 15 on Saturday, including four in Hamilton County as well as one in Webster, and one in Sunday’s update. Since 4:00 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 401 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Polk County; 79 in Dallas; 78 in Story; 19 in Webster; a dozen in Hamilton; 5 in Greene; and 23 in Boone County this weekend for a pandemic total of 1,628. Statewide, 749 Iowans are hospitalized for coronavirus, down 71 from Saturday and almost 189,000 have recovered, including 1,120 in Boone County where the fourteen-day positivity rate has gone up a percentage point in the last week to 14%.
