Local COVID positivity rate high, but steady

On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health reported 1,330 new cases of COVID-19, a decrease of 329 in the last twenty-four hours, but pushing the pandemic total to more than 296,000.  After attributing three deaths to coronavirus on Saturday, including one in Dallas County, the Department indicates 11 additional deaths were reported on Sunday, two of those in Polk County.  4,138 Iowans have now succumbed to COVID-19.  Since 4:30 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 389 new cases of coronavirus have been identified in Polk County; 94 in Dallas; 64 in Story; 19 in Webster; half a dozen in Hamilton; only three in Greene; and 26 this weekend in Boone County for 2,088 all told.  Statewide, 541 Iowans are hospitalized with COVID-19 – down eight from Saturday – and well over 255,000 have recovered, including 1,651 in Boone County, where the fourteen-day positivity rate remains where it was seven days ago at 16%.
