BOONE, Iowa—Boone County Auditor, Diane Patrick announced that there will be a Special Election on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 for Boone Community School District. Voters will be voting on a public measure pertaining to contracting indebtedness and issuance of general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $23,000,000 to provide funds to construct furnish, and equip a new elementary school building and to improve the site.
Voters will also elect a school board member to fill a vacancy. Those wishing to be on the ballot for the vacancy will need to file an Affidavit of Candidacy and a Nomination of Petition with Mitchell Lewis, the BCSD school board secretary by 5:00 PM on Friday, February 5th. The number of signatures required on the nomination of petition is 50. Candidates are encouraged to get more than the minimum of 50 in case some signatures don’t meet the requirements. Forms are available from the school board secretary, the Auditor’s Office, on the Boone County website, and on the Iowa Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.iowa.gov.
The School Board position is the seat currently held by Matt Elthon. Elthon was appointed to the Board to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Joey Weber. The appointment is until the next election for the district which will be the special election.
