BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements are being set for 62 year old Donald V. Meadows of Boone, Iowa. Don passed away at his home on Saturday, January 16, 2021 after his fight with lung cancer and other medical problems that took their toll. Per his wishes, he was cremated.
Don was born on December 8, 1958 in Boone, Iowa to Donald L. and Shirley (Reed) Meadows. Don attended Bryant elementary school. As a youngster Don took part in Boone’s Punt, Pass and Kick football activities, winning trophies for his efforts. After graduating from Boone High School in 1977, he worked various jobs with Walters Trash Removal, Gates Rubber Company, Boucher Masonry Contracting, and Tony Franklin (FMC) Masonry. His last fifteen years of work was on construction projects that included block and brick work plus operating equipment for projects at Iowa State University and Huxley High School. However, a fall from an icy scaffold in January 2010 resulted in painful and debilitating back and hip injuries, cutting his working years short.
Don continued to enjoy the outdoors and could often be found at home in the yard listening to music, playing cards and cribbage with friends that stopped by, or working on his daily Jumble or other puzzles. Don had a big heart and valued his friendships from high school, work, and Wilson’s Tap that endured over the years.
Don was a beloved son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, friend, and neighbor. Those left to cherish his memory include brothers Russell, Darryl Dean, and Steven; sisters Cheryl (Kurt) Conover and Pam (Steve) Knutson; nieces and nephews; extended family; and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Donald L. and Shirley Meadows; brothers Leslie and Earl Meadows.
Don will be missed by his family and friends, but we take comfort in knowing he is in a better place where there is no pain.
A private family graveside service will be held at Linwood Park Cemetery on January 29 where Don’s cremains will be interred next to his parents and other family members that have passed.
Arrangements are being handled by Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone. Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct them in Don’s name to the Boone Area Humane Society or your favorite charity.
